Cookie nativity recipe for riding with children

Every year, when Christmas is coming, I prepare this cookie nativity recipe for riding with children. My children love to help me and they remind me of the recipe as soon as they arrive on December 1st. It shows that they are growing, because this time at least we can identify which character each cookie represents.

If you have food coloring you can dye the glaze of different colors and you will have some very colorful cookies. We, to decorate them, have already tried other times with chocolate and dyed glasa, but this year my children have preferred simpler cookies. Of course, put them a bib or clothes that can get stained.

Ingredients for 24 cookies

  • Ingredients for cookies: 100 g of stir well with a spoon So that it integrates.

We have to be able to make a ball with the dough, if necessary we can add more flour, but better little by little. Once we have the dumpling made, wrap it with plastic wrap and store it in the fridge for half an hour.

We stretch the dough between two sheets of paper towels and with the help of the chosen cutters we make the cookies and place them on a baking sheet lined with vegetable paper. We will bake the cookies about twenty minutes in a preheated oven at 180ºC.

While they cool on a rack, we are preparing the glaze. To do this, we sift the ground sugar in a bowl. Add the egg white and lemon juice and beat with a rod mixer about 5 minutes. It should be a smooth and bright preparation. If it seems dry, add a few drops of water and mix another minute. You should easily drip from a spoon.

Ideally, use freshly made glaze, but it is preserved in the fridge for up to five days. If we are not going to use it immediately, it is best to put it in an airtight container, covered with a clean, damp cloth. When we are going to use it, it will be enough to beat it until it acquires the desired consistency.

Place the glaze in a bottle and carefully decorate the surface of the cookies. The glaze has to let dry well before tasting them. Ideally, leave them overnight. If we want to add caramels to the decoration, it has to be before the glaze dries, so as not to spoil it.
